Not wasted

Economics is getting very interesting. Its a totally mathemathical treatment here unlike in School and undergrad. Especially Time Series Analysis and fourier series being applied on number of tourists arriving in India and all are brilliant. After all four years of engineering has not gone wasted. If this prof floats any electives next year, I will think twice before saying no.

Guest Lectures

Guest Lectures are fun. The other day I attended two of them

1) A look at financial crunch from Behavioral perspective
by Prof Subramanian from University of California Los Angeles
He listed down what a invester should not do and I learnt that I have done all those mistakes like excessive trading, herding etc.
Also learnt about PEG - P/E ratio against growth rate expected.

2) Entrepreneurship
by Mr Halve, CEO, Chlorophyll, IIMA Alumni
The talk was very interesting as any marketing guy's talk would be.

Today there is one guest lecture by Arun Seth, Chairman, British Telecom.

About sports and films

Volleyball.
10 years ago I used to play quite often at school.
6 years ago I played 2 or 3 days in NITK.
Today we won a match against C section and lost one against A2. Thus loosing 2 matches we are out of the tournament.
Anyway it was great to win a game being a second team from a section.

I managed to watch 2 movies after coming to L - Pollathavan and kancheevaram. kancheevaram was brilliant.

Media Committee task is pending. I read up half the syllabus for one quiz. One project report needs my review and corrections.
Miles to go before I sleep.

Welcome back

After two weeks of classes its back to the good old world of quizzes. We have quizzes in four subjects next week. I like quizzes if they are surprises else everyone crams.

By the by Sikandar - the sports competitions have started. I played volleyball for Section E's second team. We lost 17-25 to section A.

Let the classes begin

Throughout my life I have been in E section. Now one more year at L.

6 credits this trimister.
100 hrs for each credit.
That translates to 600 hours of work.

Classes are a serious business in L. Punctuality, conduct, class-participation are valued very highly. Seats are assigned in the classroom for the students, thus proxy doesnt work.

No compromise on academics here. You come after 8:29:59 and loose your attendence.
Your mobile rings in class then be ready to earn the disrespect of the class, anger of the teacher and pay a fine of Rs1000.

For every second is valuable here. By the by, I liked all my teachers, amazing people.

The Party and thereafter

Being done with the induction we were invited for our first insti party at FPM lawns. We guys had a blast over there. I have a feeling the bonding and relationships that we create at L are very quick.
In a way it should be quick. After all we just have 2 years and that too packed with a hell lot of activities.
We guys danced like there is no tomorrow. We danced till the music was played. Then we gave the DJ some Galli and then he promised and delivered us 2 more songs.

Seven of us danced together, of which 6 from Group - B. But Group - B was a provisional group for the induction and is no more from today. Thus we all promised that whether we end up in the same group or not we will all be friends forever.

We went to the fauji at 3 and had some Lays, Biscuits and Lime soda. And thereafter we sat at the desks in fauji and discussed our past. Each one of us were frank and so open. We left for our hostels at 5 am.

An unforgetable induction indeed!

And how it rained at L

Induction was just amazing!
Three days of terrific fun and controlled laughter riot.

After registration I was coming down the stairs of PGP block and I heard a sound that millions in India are waiting to hear. One of the guys with shining joy on his face asked me
"Is that real!"
"Yes, it is raining!!"

I collected the books for Term-I and they gave me a mountain.
They got wet too.

My skin has got used to the low humidity and I am sweating profusely now. The rain added more humidity.

Our Administrative head just told us that other than Peacock we do have lot of pythons, procupines, Jackals etc in campus. L is a wildlife sanctuary, why go to Jim Corbett ?

To Lucknow With Hope

Altough the pilot mentioned the temperature to be 41 degrees, it was a different kind of 41 degrees. The kind where humidity is very low.

First thing I noticed about Lucknow other than the weather is that people are very friendly and always ready to help.

I had no problem in getting to the campus, getting the room alloted, cleaning and settling down in the room although I was all alone.

I roamed for hours together in the campus.
Spotted peacocks.
Went as close to them as possible. They are very timid creatures.

The Alumni-Freshers Meet

The Bangalore version was held at Ramada near Shivajinagar. Since Alumni are invited I supposed it will be a formal one.

But it turned out to be a fun evening with all the drinking and dancing.

It brought back memories of NITK when I used to just live my life like there is no tomorrow. The sheer enthusiasm was something that I was missing in the last two years. I remembered the ISTE parties in Mangalore. I danced, ate, mingled with freshers and alumni.

It was a memorable time.

Medical Stuff

To get into L you need to
  1. Be immunised against Typhoid, Hepatitis A and B.
  2. Take a chest X-ray and get a report of the same.
  3. Get a medical certificate from a Govt. Medical Officer
Am I getting ready for a war ?

The Big Decision

After innumerable phone calls and thousands of lines of chat on GTalk I decided that I will join IIM Lucknow (henceforth referred to as L).
In NITK there is a famous figure of speech - "I got 'L'ed". When a person gets 'L'ed s/he is going through tough times, is tortured, is strangulated. Normally people get 'L'ed in exams, seminars, viva etc.
L is popularly known as IIM hel(L) - famous for 2 years of rigorous torture. The PGP course is considered to be in the top 2 most torturous post graduate courses in the country. Thus the name of this blog just falls in place.
